The Human Spectrum

I have NOT meant to neglect you my dear friends, I’ve just been very busy between trying to get 50 lenses up at Squidoo and getting ready to move. It is a very busy, but very exciting time.

I have quite a few new lenses up this week, but the one I most enjoyed doing was “The Human Spectrum” I suppose it was inspired by many things, but most of all it is my distaste for -isms.

“Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." ~ Ferris Bueller

I can’t really say I just believe in me, but I do believe that humanity is capable of great things. Isms have a way of getting in the way of those great things, racism, sexism, elitism... how can we ever be truly great when we keep limiting ourselves to us and them?

I wish I could say I have mastered the art of mind over isms, but from time to time I find myself thinking thoughts I’m not proud of. Now and then I see someone and wonder why they are wasting their life, and I have to remind myself that it isn’t my place to decide what a waste of life really is.

We look at other people and often before we really see them, we judge them. That isn’t really fair to them, and it isn’t fair to us. When we fail to look beyond the outside, we miss what a person is really all about.

I think that is why I like reading other peoples writing so much, I can get a glimpse of the real person behind the words. Even when they aren’t trying to reveal anything, it is there. How often do we meet someone we think is a great person in the beginning only to see something else when we get to know them?

In their writing I can see those glimpses, sometimes people fake emotions and sometimes they are so real I can feel them as well. Some people fake a lot of things, but we really set ourselves up for disappointment when we fail to see beyond that image don’t you think?

I do believe in the human spectrum and all of the beauty contained therein. Humans will always have more sames than differences, we only have to look.
